Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using Just Because. By creating an account or using this platform in any way, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
1. Who We Are
Just Because is an online platform that allows parents and guardians to create gift contribution pages for children, and allows friends and family to contribute funds toward meaningful experiences and goals. Just Because is currently operating in beta and is available to users in Canada and the United States. References to "Just Because", "we", "us", or "our" refer to the Just Because platform. References to "you" refer to any person who accesses or uses the platform, whether as a parent, guardian, or contributor.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make a contribution on Just Because. By using the platform you confirm that you meet this requirement. Just Because is intended for gifting to minors and all accounts must be created and managed by adults.
3. Accounts
To create an event page you must register for an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating your account and to update it as needed. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we believe are being used fraudulently or in bad faith.
4. Creating an Event Page
Parents and guardians may create event pages to invite contributions toward specific goals for a child. By creating a page you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child named on the page, or have explicit permission from the parent or guardian to create the page on their behalf, that all information you provide is accurate and not misleading, that you will use contributed funds solely for the purpose described on the event page, and that you will not use Just Because for any unlawful purpose. Just Because reserves the right to remove any event page that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be fraudulent, misleading, inappropriate, or in violation of these terms.
5. Contributions
All contributions are final and non-refundable. By making a contribution you acknowledge that you are making a voluntary gift toward the stated goal, that contributions are not purchases and do not entitle you to any goods or services, that Just Because does not guarantee that the parent will use the funds for the stated purpose though we take reasonable steps to prevent misuse, and that you will not attempt to reverse or dispute a contribution after it has been made except in cases of unauthorized use of your payment method.
6. Fees
Just Because is currently in beta. During this period there is no platform fee charged to parents or guardians for creating or managing event pages. A standard payment processing fee is charged by Stripe, our payment processor, on each transaction. This fee is a small percentage of each contribution and is deducted automatically. Just Because does not add any additional fee on top of this during the beta period. We reserve the right to introduce platform fees in the future and will provide advance notice of any changes before they take effect.
7. Payouts and Cashout
When an event ends, parents and guardians may request a payout of the funds contributed to their event. Payouts are processed through Stripe and transferred directly to the bank account on file. Stripe conducts standard fraud and compliance checks on all payouts. As a result, transfers may take several business days to arrive after a payout is requested. This processing time is determined by Stripe and is outside of Just Because's control. To receive a payout you must complete identity verification as required by Stripe. Just Because reserves the right to delay or withhold payouts if we have reason to believe that fraud, a dispute, or a violation of these terms has occurred.
8. Memory Wall Content
By submitting content to a Memory Wall you confirm that you own or have the right to share the content you submit, that the content does not violate any third party rights, and that the content is appropriate for a child and does not contain anything harmful, offensive, or illegal. Just Because reserves the right to remove any Memory Wall content that we determine to be inappropriate or in violation of these terms.
9. Privacy and Children
Just Because takes the privacy of children seriously. Event pages are only accessible via a direct link shared by the parent or guardian. Pages are not publicly searchable and are not indexed by search engines. Parents and guardians are responsible for deciding who they share their event link with. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details.
10. Prohibited Uses
You may not use Just Because to create fraudulent or deceptive event pages, collect contributions for purposes other than those stated on the event page, impersonate another person or organization, upload content that is harmful, abusive, discriminatory, or illegal, attempt to circumvent or interfere with the platform's security or functionality, or use the platform for money laundering or any other illegal financial activity.
11. Limitation of Liability
Just Because provides this platform on an as-is basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Just Because is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including but not limited to disputes between parents and contributors, misuse of funds, or technical issues affecting payouts. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Just Because shall not exceed the total amount of fees you have paid to Just Because in the twelve months preceding the claim.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. For users in the United States, you agree to the jurisdiction of Canadian courts for any disputes arising from your use of the platform.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Just Because after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
