Privacy Policy

Just Because is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who uses our platform, especially the children whose names and photos may appear on event pages. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

1. Information We Collect

From parents and guardians who create accounts: name and email address, password stored encrypted and never readable by us, the ways you choose to receive gifts (such as an e-Transfer email or Zelle contact), child information you choose to provide including name, date of birth, and optional photo, and event details including goal categories, descriptions, target amounts, and personal notes.

From contributors who visit an event page: name as entered when submitting a contribution or memory, the amount they plan to give, and Memory Wall submissions including text, photos, and drawings.

Automatically collected: basic usage data such as pages visited and actions taken on the platform, device and browser information, and IP address.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to create and manage your account, display event pages to contributors who have the link, show parents the contributions made to their page, send account-related emails such as confirmations and thank-you emails, detect and prevent fraud and misuse of the platform, and improve the platform and fix technical issues. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We use limited website activity data to measure and improve our advertising, as described in “Advertising and Analytics” below.

3. Children's Privacy

Just Because is a platform for adults to organize gifting for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Children do not create accounts and do not interact with the platform directly. Information about a child such as their name and photo is provided by and controlled by the parent or guardian who creates their event page. Event pages are only accessible via a private link and are not publicly searchable.

4. Payment Processing

Just Because does not process or hold payments. Guests send gifts directly to the parent using a service the parent chooses, such as Interac e-Transfer, Zelle, or Venmo. Just Because never collects or stores card numbers or bank account details. Those services handle your payment information under their own privacy policies.

5. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in the following circumstances: with service providers who help us operate the platform under confidentiality obligations, when required by law or court order, and to protect the rights, property, or safety of Just Because, our users, or others. We do not share personal information with data brokers. We share limited website activity data with Meta and Google for measurement and advertising, as described in “Advertising and Analytics” below.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account we will remove your personal information within 30 days except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory reasons. Memory Wall content is retained for as long as the parent or guardian keeps their account active as this content is intended to be a lasting keepsake.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located you may have rights regarding your personal information including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. To exercise any of these rights please contact us at admin@joinjustbecause.com. For users in Canada we comply with PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws. For users in the United States we comply with applicable state privacy laws.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These include encrypted storage of passwords, secure connections, and restricted access to personal data. No system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security. 9. Cookies

Just Because uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and to make the platform function correctly. We also use analytics and advertising cookies and similar technologies from Google and Meta, as described in “Advertising and Analytics” below.

10. Advertising and Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use our website, and the Meta Pixel to measure and improve our ads on Facebook and Instagram. These tools use cookies and similar technologies. They may collect information such as the public pages you visit on our website, the ad you came from, your device and browser type, your IP address, and whether you completed actions such as creating an account or requesting a birthday reminder. When you create an account, a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address or phone number may be shared with Meta to match these actions to ads. Meta may also measure ad results directly on your device.

We do not send children’s names, birthdays, photos, Memory Wall content, or the contents of private event pages to Meta or Google. Private pages, such as event pages and your dashboard, are excluded from this tracking.

Meta and Google use this information under their own privacy policies (facebook.com/privacy/policy and policies.google.com/privacy). You can opt out at any time by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser, changing your ad settings in your Facebook or Instagram account (Accounts Centre > Ad preferences), or installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Opting out does not affect your ability to use Just Because.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by a notice on the platform.

13. Optional Birthday Reminders

If you choose birthday reminders, we collect your email address, your child’s birthday month and day, and a record of your consent. No child name, birth year, or account is required. We use this information to confirm your email and send the upcoming reminders two months and one month before the next birthday. Supabase stores the signup data and Resend delivers the emails. You can unsubscribe using any reminder email. Signup records are scheduled for deletion seven days after an unconfirmed link expires, or 30 days after you unsubscribe or the birthday passes. We use hashed rate-limit identifiers to help prevent misuse.
