Just Because is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who uses our platform, especially the children whose names and photos may appear on event pages. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

1. Information We Collect

From parents and guardians who create accounts: name and email address, password stored encrypted and never readable by us, bank account details for payouts collected and stored by Stripe on our behalf, identity verification information required by Stripe for payout processing, child information you choose to provide including name, date of birth, and optional photo, and event details including goal categories, descriptions, target amounts, and personal notes.

From contributors who visit an event page: name as entered when submitting a contribution or memory, payment information collected and processed by Stripe directly, and Memory Wall submissions including text, photos, and drawings.

Automatically collected: basic usage data such as pages visited and actions taken on the platform, device and browser information, and IP address.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to create and manage your account, display event pages to contributors who have the link, process contributions and payouts through Stripe, send account-related emails such as confirmation and payout notifications, detect and prevent fraud and misuse of the platform, and improve the platform and fix technical issues. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for advertising purposes.

3. Children's Privacy

Just Because is a platform for adults to organize gifting for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Children do not create accounts and do not interact with the platform directly. Information about a child such as their name and photo is provided by and controlled by the parent or guardian who creates their event page. Event pages are only accessible via a private link and are not publicly searchable.

4. Payment Processing

All payment processing is handled by Stripe. Just Because does not store credit card numbers or full bank account details. Stripe's handling of payment information is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy available at stripe.com/privacy. For parents who request payouts, Stripe may collect and verify identity information as required by financial regulations.

5. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in the following circumstances: with Stripe to process payments and payouts, with service providers who help us operate the platform under confidentiality obligations, when required by law or court order, and to protect the rights, property, or safety of Just Because, our users, or others. We do not share personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account we will remove your personal information within 30 days except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory reasons. Memory Wall content is retained for as long as the parent or guardian keeps their account active as this content is intended to be a lasting keepsake.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located you may have rights regarding your personal information including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. To exercise any of these rights please contact us at admin@joinjustbecause.com. For users in Canada we comply with PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws. For users in the United States we comply with applicable state privacy laws.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These include encrypted storage of passwords, secure connections, and restricted access to personal data. No system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security. 9. Cookies

Just Because uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and to make the platform function correctly. We do not use tracking cookies or third party advertising cookies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by a notice on the platform.
